Earth Day . . .

The proper use of science
is not to conquer nature but to live in it.

 Native American Proverb

The earth is what we all have in common.
Thomas Edison

There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is a rapture on the lonely shore,
There is society, where none intrudes,
By the deep sea, and music in its roar:
I love not man the less, but Nature more
 William Blake

To see a world in a grain of sand,
And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
And eternity in an hour.
 Wendell Berry

Forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet,
and the winds long to play with your hair.

Cree Indian Proverb

We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors,
we borrow it from our children.
John Muir

Beautiful thoughts. I will keep each quote buried in my brain and try to remember to live them.

I enjoyed the quotes and images, Lynne. Some of the quotes would be wonderful on a cushion embroidered all around with pansies or tulips.

Gorgeous tulips! We have an annual tulip festival here in the pacific northwest that is amazing. Miles and miles of tulips.. all different colors. It's really an amazing site.

Yours are lovely and I'll check out your prior post!

We all need to do our part to help the earth... recently someone "dumped" out a bathtub on our road, they must have been doing renovations and the garbage dump was closed so they threw it out here (happens every so often)... anyway, snow still being on the ground, I told my hubby to get it, so he hooked up a tow rope and dragged it home... I will try using it as a "raised" garden bed, and if it looks too bad a site, we will take it to the dump (it's not a claw tub or anything)... anyway, my point is... some people just don't care and they really need to get in touch with the realities of what they are doing... thanks Lynne (just catching up on my blogs posts because I've been busy for a few days, sorry I missed your last)... Cheers~

Like Heather I am so behind on my blogs. I think we celebrated Earth Day early with a trip to the botanical gardens in Mobile today. So lovely I can’t contain my thoughts to describe them. Perhaps Monday will be spent planting the six azaleas we purchased in colors we didn’t have. We don’t landscape but make pockets of color in the woods. It amuses me when I check off the “new” ideas everyone has now they they have become “green.” Not only has it always been my lifestyle, it’s plain common sense to replenish and protect our planet. Lovely, life affirming quotes, Lynn. Each and every one is a treasure. Happy weekend.

Hey I bought some tulip bulbs and hubby planted them in pots for us, I didn't even know it was earth day!

What a perfectly wonderful post!
I don't have great luck with bulbs..mainly because some animal, either racoon or possum wants to bed down in them...but I would dearly love to plant some tulips.
Earth day..what a lovely picture you chose to celebrate it.
