Raining Oak Leaves . . .

raining oak leaves around here
non stop
knee deep in places
staying ahead of them has been
our goal for the past week

we know one thing
if we ever build or buy again
it won't have oak trees
although it will be where the leaves
can fly freely

we stopped counting
tarp loads at forty
this hard work calls for
raking, blowing and vacuuming up the leaves
and then hauling them back in the woods
(a bit of a whine huh)

never fear
we teamed it up this weekend
and managed to erase the majority
of the 2013 leaves

until tomorrow
when the next
leaf wave comes through

she is not happy with the leaves
she likes snow though
smile

and this was my treat for all my hard work
it dropped from the hemlock tree
as I was raking near by

guess where this little nest
will be nesting in a few weeks
~
until the next time

I wonder if you will be on your porch entrance, with a pretty flowering winter plant tucked in it ? Nature produces such wonderful things. enjoy it, and all those fallen oak leaves look lovely but I don't envy you clearing them away.

Lynne, you are keeping busy moving all those leaves. We are next to the woods and hubby sometimes gives up the leaves blow right back into the yard. Cute poem and Snickers is adorable as always. Have a happy day and week ahead!

I raked up a few leaves on Saturday... but decided until the wind subsides, it's fruitless.

Love your little nest. :)

I think I meant to say futile... it's early.

Leaf hauling is soooo much work. I miss having the color of leaves that fall, but this property has so many pine and cedar trees that we get few leaves on the ground... I don't miss the clean-up at all. You reatlly DO have a lot of leaves. :(

i love our oaks, but out here in the texas wind, they're able to 'leave' on their own w/o raking and bagging.

Nice storyboard about the fallen leaves. If only we could skip the snow shoveling that follows so soon after the last leaf is blown away.

Yep, that IS a bit too much.

Hope you get a rest before the next batch.

Makes one wonder who ever decided leaves had to be raked and removed? Probably the woman who invented the rake?

Wow, that is a LOT of oak leaves. It looks quite pretty but sure is a lot of work. I guess should you ever sell your home you should do so in spring when no one can see all the work they'll have to do in the fall. lol I wonder where the nest will show up?

We have oak leaves too. Next time we lean towards dune grass and minimal trees.

Whew. That's a lot of work. Our front and back yard are under control but the back woods around and behind the tree house is knee deep with oak leaves. Good exercise, but tiresome. Your little nest is so sweet. Tuck in. It's cold. Snow has been in the air!

I love that nest, Lynne. What a nice reward for all your hard work. I can understand not wanting oak trees around your next home, but they really do have so much character. Yesterday, during our morning walk, I noticed oak leaves under our feet and marveled at their shape.
