Only One . . .

twenty five years ago
I moved into a brand new home.
Shortly after, I planted my first and only Peony.
After the first year and no blooms
I moved the Peony to its current location.

The Peony has done nothing for the past twenty five years.
Oh it had plenty of green leaves, but that was it..
A few days ago I noticed a bud
and it burst into bloom yesterday..

I could have left the Peony on the bush
but instead
I cut it immediately and
brought it inside and added
it to vase with some other flowers..

pretty it is

I think I need to purchase more.
It is time to do some reading up on Peonies,
find the perfect place for planting them,
nourish and prepare the soil to get ready
and sit back and hopefully enjoy some
beautiful blooms.

Exciting indeed!
~
Until next time,
Love, Lynne

Beautiful!!! Mom and Granny Pruett both love peonies. Mom often said they have to like where they are.

OOO, it's so pretty...one of my favorite flowers.
25 years to get ONE flower...you must have the patience of Jobb...I would have yanked it out of the ground and planted something else and then, seeing your pretty bloom, would have been mad at my impatient self.

Lynne - what a beautiful bloom! Wonder why it took it so long to bloom? Did you do anything different this year?

Enjoy the beauty!

Wow, that is a long time to wait for one bloom.. Your peony is lovely..The same happening here with our lilac bush, a few years so far and not one bloom?

Have a happy weekend!

Mine weren't doing anything this year, at least before we left for vacation and I usually have a few blooms. Weird. So glad you got to enjoy yours.

What a lovely peonie bloom. But I remember that I waited several years for mine to bloom here in France, & even now they have a mind of their own and don't always flower. you must have so must patience like someone else I would have given up and pulled it out. Good choice to cut it, it looks so pretty in the vase as a heavy down pour of rain and they get bashed & petals fall.

Peonies are one of my favorites, and a flower I added to my own garden a few years ago. I have two, and one like yours has yet to bloom--You're reminded me that I should read about why it hasn't. But my white one, was full of flowers so I cut a few just as you did to enjoy them inside. They really are so lovely!

Oh how I love peonies. I have had one plant for years. Some years I will have three or four blooms. This year I had buds, but they died before blooming. I don't think mine gets enough sun. Supposedly they do not like to be moved, nor have anything growing around it. Your bloom is beautiful!

So pretty! I think they need a little sun--especially throughout most of spring. I have two that bloom moderately even though they're in partial shade, and another one that hasn't bloomed yet after several years. But it's in deeper shade. Maybe I'll luck out one of these years like you did! Yay!

Yes, it is very pretty!
You are a very patient lady; to wait so long for a bloom!!

In one of our houses, there was an entire row of peonies ... about a 25 foot long row.

The neighbor, told us that those peonies had been there since about 1952.

Once they are established, you will enjoy them for many more years to come.

Hope your day is sweet :)

Gorgeous color..I know they like sun but there are many old plants around here that get no attention and they seem to be thriving..

What a special surprise!

I've been told from the peony lovers I descend from ;) (my mom and my old childhood grandma neighbor, Violet, who's now passed on) that they won't bloom if they're planted too deep.
I believe this to be true, as I have them in two locations - one blooms like mad, a whole bush of bright big poms. And the others - not so much. One flower if we're lucky, maybe two.. and those have been there many more years, so it has nothing to do with getting established. We know those ones were plopped in deep. I always mean to dig them up & replant them correctly.

Regardless - your bloom is beautiful!!
