Cardinal In The Bitter Sweet . . .

A few days ago I was looking out the kitchen windows
and saw a Cardinal in amongst the Bitter Sweet.
Some of you may have remembered seeing my huge Bitter Sweet Vine.
It was planted twenty five years ago and the
original male and female plants were purchased from someone
who was selling plants from their vine in Muskegon.
I think this makes this plant very, very old.
The vine has weaved itself in and around a huge oak tree
which is in my direct view from the kitchen window.
The Bitter Sweet Berries are so high up I can't reach them.
Many of the berries remained on the vine this year,
no doubt from our crazy fall, early winter weather.
The Cardinals and some of the other birds
that frequent our yard are enjoying the berries.
I stayed very still in the window, (because the birds watch and can see me)
without a tripod to take these photos.
Excuse the somewhat fuzzy pictures,
I included them all here because I seldom
can get close shots of any of my bird visitors.
And I only have one
to show you today.
Mister IGH took this picture before the snow arrived.
The gate makes me wonder and wish
I could drive/walk right through and
to see what is beyond.
that's it folks
see you soon
Love, Lynne

I love seeing the cardinals in the winter. Beside the fact that they're red~my favorite~ they are a welcome sight contrasting against so much white and gray!

Cardinals are just one of the most beautiful birds. They just brighten up a dreary winter day! What a great vine! Bittersweet has to be one of my favorite vines. I am hoping to establish some vines at our new place!

You are lucky to see these beautiful cardinals, they aren't native to our area. That is a nice fence/entryway.

Beautiful cardinal photos! The red of the berries really does pop and compliment the red of the birds. I enjoy seeing the females, too--something about the olive/sage color of their feathers, with just a touch of red. :)

Pretty Cardinals. I have a pair that are always around. I hope that the bittersweet vine doesn't hurt the oak tree. Love those gates ...Beautiful entry.

Oh, what a handsome fellow he is...always makes me think of the song Sharp Dressed Man by ZZ Top.

Ad I love the rock wall/fence part of your fence...not that the gate isn't pretty. I just simple love rock walls. Stone houses...anything built of stone.
