Blue Beauty . . .

My friend Jackie's Hydrangea . . .  she does nothing to create this beauty.
no watering, trimming, fertilizing, NOTHING, yet . . . she brings some beauty
she smiles at them and watches me when I stop over to steal a few!
I bet they look large here to you, in person they are HUGE!

Jackie isn't sure how old this Hydrangea bush is, thinking may 50+ years.
year after year she brings this blue beauty

I dipped the ends of the hydrangeas in some alum,
per a suggestion from my friend Barbie.
thus the cloudy water.

a sturdy hydrangea at once proclaims the place
as the abode of a real gardener
rather than a mere purchaser
of plants to cover the landscape."

I can't imagine a garden without at least one Hydrangea shrub. I'm even willing to pamper them through summer droughts with daily waterings. I like to leave them in the vase after the water's gone...within a few weeks...nearly instant dried arrangements! Lovely photos and verses, too.

How beautiful.

I panicked when I thought I had lost Grandma's this year. A few leaves came up but no blossoms. Maybe I can feed it a little and it will catch up next year. Granny always buried iron scraps around her so the bloom would be bluer.

Hydrangeas have to be one of my favourite flowers Lynne. I love them all …. blue ones. pink ones, white ones, all of them !! We have quite a few in our garden, mostly white and pink and a beautiful lime coloured one. I like to dry them too. Blue ones are hard to grow here …. you need an acid soil.
What a lovely name your friend has !!!!!! haha. XXXX

How lovely!!! They are a favorite of mine as well. Mine didn't do as well this year (better than last), so I would be stealing a few from a friend too!

I had a hydrangea in our yard and it did not give me even one bloom...not a one!! After a decade of disappointment, I dug it up and gave it to my sister. It flowers in her yard. I guess it just didn't like my dirt! I should go over and cut a few bloom, shouldn't I?
