Woodland Surprise . . .

ORANGE HAPPENING in the woods!
Yesterday, while clearing, cleaning up some annoying weeds
in the back yard, pachysandra wooded area,
I found this patch of bright orange fungus!
I thought it was a pumpkin at first, it was that large!

I showed Mister Irish . . . and he was surprised right along with me.
So . . . I looked up Gardening Know How, Orange Fungus, and found this info.
Thought you too would enjoy seeing this beautiful bright, Orange Fairy Cup.
Not considered poisonous, but article did not suggest eating.

Isn’t life grand . . . filled with surprises.
Be back soon . . .

“Orange peel fungus (Aleuria aurantia), or orange fairy cup fungus is a striking fungi that can be found growing throughout North America, especially during the summer and fall. This fungus, like other members of the cup fungi family, has a cup-like body with folds and is a brilliant orange color, which some may mistake for a discarded orange peel. Spores are big and have spiny projections. This small fungus reaches heights of only about 4 inches and has a white, felt-looking underside.”

Oh, I love the name -- orange fairy cup! That's really glorious. I love the different fungi so much but I don't think I've ever seen this one. What a lovely find!
