The Music Is Playing . . .

Doubting there will be family members milling through the house
this year for our Thanksgiving and Christmas traditions.
It hasn’t stopped me though from getting in the mood to think
pictures, pine cones, ribbons, gifts, foods, treats,
greens, trees, lights, music.

Disappointing for us all.
Best we think that way though to help stop the recent Covid increases.
Western Michigan has been hit hard.
Neighbors of mine plus family members are dealing with the virus.
The affects of this pandemic are double, triple, on and on!
Health, jobs, care the list continues.
Wearing masks, washing hands, sanitizing helps us all.
I find keeping a thankful heart helps too.

I hope we can find a patch of Winter Berries this year
like my friend Barb found a few years ago.
The brilliant red certainly does dress up my vases of greens.

Changing up art pieces in our home usually catches my holiday energy first.
My Iowa brother Terry, former art teacher, always creating,
has blessed me, us, all of us with his talent.
Be it pottery, pencil sketches, water color, oils, collage,
wood cuts, prints, antiques, the list goes on and on.
Safe to say, in his mid eighties, daily still, Terry is creating.
He started off with wood, building furniture and
moved to sculpture, pottery, oils, watercolor, pen and ink.
Folded papers, books, designs seem to capture his interest today.

Ski Trails above is my favorite.  It is kept up in view year around.
(Forgive the light peaks, difficult to capture the detail of these hanging pieces.)
Terry asked for this piece back several years ago and I declined.
(I think he wanted to use the frame for another project.)
This original is made with paper pulp, adding soft color tints,
and interjecting twine cord to depict
the Colorado hills we skied many times.
Oh the history and memories that play out in this piece.

This pencil sketch of holiday touches
with Santa’s, bells, trees, ornaments Raggedy Ann and more
has been brought out of my “print” storage closet to help me dress up the house.
Wish you could see all the detail.
a treasure indeed

This picture story could go on and on but I will close with this
back yard scene of the Oak Tree woods behind our house.
Years back, a fall visit from Terry left him with an early snowfall
and he sketched the scene, went back home and created this piece.

He didn’t stay around to help clean up the leaves!
I end this here for it is exactly what Mister Irish and I have planned for our day.
Hopefully it will be our final clean up.

Thank you for visiting.
Thank you for your friendships.

Stay Safe Well Happy

Clean up yesterday is completed. We worked hard!
The wind must be blowing in the right direction for us, so far so good.
Cleaning leaves out of the Boxwood will keep me busy this week.
I am going to try using the shop vac, wish me luck, thank you!

I love the artwork of your very talented brother, Lynne! I too especially love the pencil sketch, traditionalist that I am. Stay safe, stay well! Sending cyber hugs!

He's tremendously talented! I love the "Ski Trails"-- I see why it's up year round. But it's all beautiful and unique.

Like you, it's just the two of us for the holiday. I finally have my head around that. But it doesn't mean I'm cutting back on the decor. There might be more!
