Clearing My Pathways . . .

this has been a different spring summer gardening time for me.
my days have usually been filled with digging in the dirt, reorganizing this and that.
this year i had to table that energy and make changes in my plans,.
depending on others became my mantra.
it was a race to find the patience.

tasks usually completed  in spring were not accomplished
finally, today, on an august hot humid drippy heavy day
tugging away happened to the overflowing crevices

the pathways were laid almost twenty years ago
springtime found the crevices filled with ferns and johnny jump ups,
grass sprouted up from some seeding we had done

the pathways border a new cutting garden
leading to the back yard gardens
the cutting garden is sparse and currently has
ajuga, mondo grass, lavender, zinnias, cosmos, bells of ireland

japanese fern adds a bit of color in the midst of the green
garden benches, water baths, a touch of crocosmia
working in the gardens once again
brings thankfulness and joy

Ah Lynne, you and I are Kindred Spirits in path-weeding. I weed our paths and the gravel drive by hand several times a year. I finish and then go back to the beginning. My family thinks I'm crazy, but it is the most soothing activity, to me.

Your gardens, and walking paths are gorgeous!
So lush and green.

I've wanted to plant bells of Ireland.

Have a great weekend!

Lynne, Your beds look so beautiful and full. I loved taking a stroll. I am afraid with the lack of rainfall this past winter, spring and now summer I have little faith my own gardens will survive. Starting over can be fun!!!! Have a wonderful weekend. Bonnie

I was hoping for one of your garden tours and here you posted one. I know moss is slippery underfoot, but I love the old world look of it. Thanks, Lynne, for a bench to rest on and enjoy the luxury of your lush greenery.

Oh Lynne,
Your garden is beautiful ....... a little like mine. Our garden faces north, so we have lots of ferns and hostas and lots of green. WE also have a very old patio of old bricks very similar to your wonderful pathway.

Beautiful pathways, it is so easy for that kind of path to look either too bare or too weedy and you have struck just the right balance.

Love the natural look of it all, Lynne, which I know is difficult to create and maintain. A lovely space.

Hi Lynne,
Your garden is beautifully decorated with many shades of fresh green. I feel as if I could see cool breezes passing over the garden. Send more breezes to Japan!

Such a beautiful yard you have...I love the look of your walks...we live on the edge of the forest and it is always creeping into our yard..I love it! But my husband like to keep it tame and was out there yesterday cutting away...which made me kinda sad.
Anyways...i know it will grow back soon enough. Happy new week to you.

Beautiful gardens!! Your trees provide lovely dappled shade too. Keeping up with a brick path can be daunting at times. Our little patio got quite overgrown a couple of weeks ago. But at the time it was just too hot to go out and do anything to it.

Oh my goodness Lynne...your pathway and garden are absolutely delightful...I would love to meander through it...it looks extremely enchanting!!!
Glad there's quite a bit of shade there for you, and I hope it cools off soon. We're just starting the 'hot' part of our summer...finally, just in time for fall!
