Homemade Ice Cream . . .

We are getting ready for our family holiday gathering on Sunday.
This past weekend we made a trial run
of making homemade ice cream.

Mr and Mrs Irish Garden House
found fresh churned ice cream absolutely delicious.

The process takes time and patience
Cool the Ice Cream Maker
Cook the cream and milk
Cool the cream and milk
Add the ice cubes and salt.to the ice cream maker.
Fill the chilled cream into the container.
Turn on the electric ice cream maker.
Churn for about forty five minutes

And then the tasting time.

Years ago my mom and dad made ice cream
when we would visit them from Wisconsin, in Iowa.
Their ice cream maker was not electric.
Scott and Suzie remember churning ice cream
and enjoying the great treat as the end result.

I think they will be happy we are reviving a family tradition.
Any traditions in your family?

We were going to make homemade peppermint ice cream for a Christmas party we will be attending over the holidays, but for some reason Hubby changed his mind and will be doing some fudge and come coconut bars instead... BUT, we do love homemade ice cream and i recall having to hand crank the machine when I was a kid in Iowa. Great stuff!!

What a wonderful tradition!
Looks like a tasty treat.

I think it's a bit too cold here for ice cream... it's about -14.
Guess we could just put the cream and sugar outside, and it would freeze in no time~~LOL!

Enjoy this day.

Hi Lynne, We'd need Ben and Jerry to have enough ice cream for our crew that gathers on Christmas Eve! Sounds like a fun tradition. My favorite tradition is lighting the luminarias that line our sideway and path. Then magically, Christmas comes. Love and hugs to you my friend. merry Christmas... penny

I have one of those newer ice cream makers and it is fantastic. No cooking or chilling. My favorite thing to do is add pie to the ice cream when it is almost done. I break up a piece of apple pie or cherry bar (even done it with butter tarts) and toss it in. You get lovely bits of crumbly crust as well as ribbons of pie filling and chunks of fruit......delicious!

This looks like such a fun tradition! We have an ice cream maker (my oldest asked for it for his 6th bday) but haven't used it since it got cold out.

You guys have more fun at your house. All I remember about home made ice cream is a wet towel and a very cold bottom from weighting down the top of the churn. Enjoy!

We never had a maker but my aunt did and it was always a treat. We took turns turning that crank on a hot day and the ice cream was our just reward.
