Michigan Asparagus Is On . . .

a roadside stand
three times i had driven to my favorite place
looking for fresh asparagus
drove past again today
bingo

we tried something new tonight
olive oil, garlic pepper, mixed seasoning
wrapped asparagus in tinfoil
grilled
cooks very fast
check after five minutes
delicious

when it is in season around here we eat asparagus often
nothing like fresh asparagus
this bunch was from the farmers market on saturday
i wash it in cool water to remove the sand
place a small amount of cool water in a glass pyrex like bowl
add asparagus
microwave for 3 minutes 30 seconds
time may differ with microwaves
we do not like soggy asparagus

in a separate cup
microwave one tablespoon butter
garlic pepper seasonings, parsley
fresh lemon juice, or real lemon concentrate

pour water off the steamed asparagus
add the melted butter, seasoning mix
serve

another way we enjoy fresh asparagus

 approximately a pound of asparagus
three vidalia onions
saute onions, seasonings preferred, in olive oil or butter
add asparagus pieces in the final minute or less
 pretty tasty with the onions

we do not like soggy asparagus
bright beautiful green
excellent

special treat
deep fried
fresh michigan asparagus
at a
favorite restaurant

These recipes sound delicious... I have not often cooked asparagus because I too do not like it soggy, and I have not found a good recipe... I am going to try these! Cheers~

I planted some asparagus this spring. I think they take a few years to start producing. My fav. are roasted just a bit with S&P, chopped garlic and a little olive oil. Oh..and raw as a snack. (I do not like them soggy either).
The honor system sales just makes me feel good!

Chris and I were just talking about asparagus. There are a few stands between our house and the Allendale GVSU campus. Sounds like the perfect vegetable this week. Now, if I can only get the girls to try it?!?

Hi Lynne. I love asparagus and I think I will try your way of cooking it on the barbecue. One can also do it in the oven with oil and seasonings. Such a delicious spring treat although we can buy it all year now but, fresh is the best! Have a great week. Hugs, Pam

Deep fried asparagus? Never seen it before....I am sure it will be on menus all over Toronto soon.

I do love Spring asparagus. For some reason the white kind does not appeal to me at all.

I love it roasted with olive oil, salt and pepper - I will hit the Farmer's Market on Saturday for my own fresh Michigan asparagus :-)

I'm loving the new to me recipes...

My sister's farm can't harvest it fast enough. Especially after the heat wave we were getting.

As long as it's not mushy it's one of my fav recipes.

Hi Lynne,
I just LOVE asparagus and often cook it when it's in season or order it in a restaurant. Thanks for showing us some other ways of cooking it.
....and, I grow Queen Anne's Lace in the garden. I didn't dig any up from the roadside ..... I bought a couple of plants at the garden centre !! XXXX
