Veteran's Day . . .

We attended a Veteran's Day Ceremony this morning
at the Veteran's Memorial Causeway
in North Muskegon, Michigan.
Reeths Puffer Junior High School band played
and represented the music/songs of the
Army, Navy, Marine, Coastguard and Air Force.
There were many veterans in the large crowd.
My husband Jack was one of them.
He was in the Navy, 70-74, Vietnam Nam,
on the ship USS Guadalupe.
The ceremony was memorable, touching, meaningful.
A misty sky gave an illusion of quiet solemn.
(I was disappointed in myself for leaving my camera in the car.).
Soon after the closing words and the 21 gun salute the clouds opened in a deluge.
We were getting drenched, and were fortunate
to catch a ride on the trolley back to our car.
Jack and I went to The Olive Garden where he received a veteran's lunch.
Sitting not far from us was an older couple in uniform.
The room became silent when they walked in and sat down.
It was very touching to see them help one another.
She was carrying a cane and he helped her walk to the rest room.
We returned to the causeway so I could
take the pictures I wished I had taken earlier.
The site of the American Flag flying in the distance
gave tribute to the day.
I sincerely thank those who have served
and those currently serving for our freedom.
Attending the Veteran's Day Ceremony today
gave me renewed respect and honor
for the women and men of the military.

May God Bless Each Of You

My country tis of thee, Sweet land of liberty,
   Of thee I sing.
Land where my fathers died!
Land of the Pilgrim's pride!
From every mountain side,
Let freedom ring!

A very poignant day and one that must be remembered. The 11th day of the 11th month is called Armistice Day here and there is always a 2 minute silence at 11 o'clock, even in the shops. I watched all of the services on television. I don't know if you have heard about it but, there is an installation of 888,246 ceramic poppies { one for every soldier killed in the First World War. } It's called ' Blood - swept Lands and Seas of Red '.
Google Poppies at The Tower Of London and have a look at the images Lynne ….. it's amazing.
A very personal and moving day for you Lynne. XXXX
