A Long Way Home . . .

Have you met Saroo Brierley . . .
A few months ago mister irish and I caught a piece about him on 60 Minutes,
(quite sure this is where we first heard his story.)

I was looking forward to seeing the movie LION
which is a based on Saroo Brierley's life . . .
and his book & story, A Long Way Home.

Last evening we went to see the movie . . .

***Bits and Pieces from The Hollywood Report as reported by Pip Bulbek ***

Despite seeing Lion around 20 times, the real-life Saroo Brierley still gets emotional when he sees the Oscar-nominated film based on his epic journey to find his family.

The response to the film of Brierley’s story - how he was separated from his family in India at age 5, adopted by an Australian couple and embarked on an epic search to find his birth family 25 years later - has been amazing, he says. “It's another level of my story to the news reports and the book but the intensity is so much greater,” the 35-year old tells THR.

The film is “so captivating and a testament to hope, perseverance and the triumph of the human spirit. We never thought that there’d be so much conversation about the film, especially on the humanitarian side,” adds Brierley, clearly thrilled that that it is resonating with audiences worldwide.

The Movie . . .
LION
Five year old Saroo gets lost on a train which takes him thousands of miles across India, away from home and family. Saroo must learn to survive alone in Kolkata, before ultimately being adopted by an Australian couple. Twenty five years later, armed with only a handful of memories, his unwavering determination, and a revolutionary technology known as Google Earth, he sets out to find his lost family and finally return to his first home.

In my eyes, Sonny Pawar, in his first acting experience . . . is outstanding.

His journey of being lost from his beloved brother,
alone, frightened, confused . . . yet perceptive, wise, determined
is clearly depicted in the movie.

Dev Patel plays the lead as the grown up Saroo Brierley,
Nicole Kidman plays the mother of Brierley . . . they too were outstanding.

Enough said by me . . . I highly recommend this movie . . .
Poignant, emotional, daunting, tears, joy . . .

And Brierley hasn’t quite finished with his story yet.
“After this is all over I need to sit my butt back down and write,” he says, with a “prequel” of sorts in the works. He wants it to center on his adoptive and biological mothers and Mrs. Sood, the head of the orphanage responsible for his adoption, and who previously has worked with Mother Theresa.
“The stories of these amazing women who are oceans apart but bound together, would be so endearing to a lot of women,” Brierley says . . . "

Much more info on the net . . .
Plus, you might be interested in reading his book, A Long Way Home, as well.
It is in my plans . . .

Love ~
Lynne

Just saw it today and cried like a baby. When I visited India I visited an orphanage for runaway boys and I had flashbacks remember the sadness of the kids while watching the film. What a wonderful story.

I still haven't seen this Lynne, though Arti at Ripple Effects wrote enthusiastically about it as well. I'll need to try to get there before it moves on.
