A Chapter In My Story . . .

August 20, 1961
4:00 pm
First Congregational Church
Hampton, Iowa
We Were Married
We were at the church on time
My daddy held on tight
I tried to shoo the fly that flew up inside my veil
We signed the license
Cake and Punch Reception after, at the church
We changed our clothes, grabbed the small Samonsite "carry on"
Dressed up in our "going away" finery
Drove a few miles down the country road for dinner and overnight
The next day we drove to Milwaukee to begin our married life together
Gary was finishing up his business undergrad degree, I was beginning my first teaching job
Hamburger was 15 cents a pound, our weekly food budget was 10 dollars
A few days after we arrived in Milwaukee, we were driving to our apartment, and the
back end of an ice cream truck opened up and a huge container of ice cream rolled out
We grabbed it, took it back to the apartment, invited the neighbors, enjoyed the ice cream feast

Life was easy, fun, good
Memory treasures for sure . . .

Love ~
Lynne

Really neat photos! The dress, the veil with the little round tiara atop your head, your flowers. Oooh, love those flowers. Your 'going away' dress was great! Looks like something I would have chosen had I married during that decade. Thanks for sharing these very special photos with us. xox

Good Morning Lynne, I feel honoured that you have shared these beautiful photographs of your wedding day. You looked absolutely beautiful.
You looked so radiant and I love your pixie style hair.... it really suited you.
I love looking at photographs and remembering. Photographs capture so many precious moments, which sometimes can fade away.... not that your wedding day would fade as that stays in your heart.
There must be something in the air, because George and I were looking at our wedding album recently. The hairstyle, the clothes..... matching handbags and shoes which are not in vogue any more. My daughters try to encourage me to have a different colour handbag to the colour of my shoes..... I just can't do it. It doesn't feel right. Actually I feel as if I've made a mistake and picked up the wrong handbag.... so its matching bag and shoes
for me.

With warmest wishes
Daphne

I had a laugh over the ice cream story. Great memories. Happy Monday, enjoy your day and the week ahead.

Good morning, Lynne. What beautiful pictures you shared! I enjoyed each & every one and the remarks you made at the end. Funny about the ice cream. It brought to mind a memory of mine from years ago. Hubby & I were living in Glendale, Arizona as he was stationed there in the Air Force. One evening we took a walk to town and, glancing into shop windows, saw a turkey on a rotisserie spit. The sign said to put your name in to win it. We did and we found out a few days later that we were the winners! We shared a meal of it with our new Air Force friends.

A wonderful chapter. You look like a princess in that gown, Lynne. Your father looks so somber. I wonder what was going through his head. No doubt that his little girl was about to embark on an adventure away from him. Or maybe he just didn't like having his picture taken. LOL Anyway, you've had an interesting life, with more to come. Hugs.
