Freed Up . . .

Time returned to me . . .
Yesterday . . .
Closed the Facebook door . . .
Seconds, minutes, hours back in my bucket . . .

“This time,
like all times,
is a very good one,
if we but know what to do with it.”

Well, I wish you luck with permanently leaving Facebook. My experience at closing that door was not so good.

About two years ago I decided to drop Facebook permanently - meaning 'deleting the account' permanently. Too much wasted time and unsolicited postings. I followed the steps, read all the cautions (including the caution that warned me all my data would be DELETED PERMANENTLY if I took that final step) ... completed all the steps including the final one ... and it took some time to get through all the steps. But I thought it was gone. For about 4 months Facebook was out of my life, Facebook emails stopped and I never missed it. Then one day a Facebook email popped into my google inbox. I was confused. My email address in Facebook should have been permanently deleted. I clicked on the email and got the message, "Hello Elaine and welcome back to Facebook." I was shocked. All of my account was still available (as if I never left) and apparently automatically reinstated by clicking on the email. This all happened before the data breach that is in the news now.

So I decided if there was no way to permanently delete the account (and I suspect that this is true as NOTHING on the internet is ever permanently removed), I would use the Facebook filters to remove all the objectionable information that got posted to my news page. Now Facebook isn't so irritating. Have they captured my personal data in this recent breach? Probably, but I don't keep much of anything worth stealing on that site. I am far more worried about other sites where I have left identifying information ... and there have been breaches there as well.

Sorry this post was so long.

Good for you, Lynne. I don't post much on Facebook. I get disgusted with many of the things posted there. I don't mean to offend anyone but I'm just not very comfortable there.

New beginnings! Cheers! I don't go on my personal Facebook page much at all now, for various reasons. Enjoy the extra time in the garden!

I opened a page on Facebook when it started and have never written on it !!! I really don't like it Lynne ....it all seems to be showing off and unrealistic selfies ! I much prefer blogging . I just popped out in the garden to prune a couple of things and ended up staying out there and getting really dirty in inappropriate clothes !!! XXXX

Oh to try to balance the joy that blogging and Facebook can bring and then the waste of time it can become. I applaud your decisions. And we are enjoying the weather until the next cold front comes. This just has to end soon!

Hi Lynne! I'm not crazy about FB either. At first I was allowing many followers, people from high school that I hadn't seen or heard from for 100 years. Then one day about two years ago, I cleaned house. I now have about 50 followers, all close friends and family. I look at it every few days. Instagram is also grabbing up my time. I just try to use it when I have nothing pressing to do. I've met many new friends on IG, and they come to my blog (I think), and that makes me happy. I do love new friends (like you!!).

Caught up by looking at a few of your previous posts. You take the most stunning pictures of nature. Those darling birds melt my soul, even when the rest of me is so cold!

Warmer days ahead!

Bravo for you, Lynne! I'm convinced FB is not good for us. I do check the goods on a local consignment store there since they update it with their new inventory, but I try to stick to just that. Cheers for you!! blessings ~ tanna
