New Plan . . .

One day a week . . . my new plan is to . . . “Stay Not Go”. . .
I might even stretch this to two days . . .
My oh my, “I go” a bunch . . .
Lunch here and there . . . Coffee with friends . . . Groceries, errands, appointments . . .
Yesterday was a “stay and not a go day” . . .

I did my neighborhood walk, hung sheets outdoors in the warm breeze, finished up more laundry, cuddled Snickers who was having a bit of an “off” day, finished some birthday painting gifts and sat back to enjoy my recent “no facebook” decision.

I have enjoyed planning some birthday things for Little Great Grand Oakland, she turns four on the 21st. She can usually be found walking around with a small pad of paper to draw her pictures. I found some pads of paper, pencils, colored pencils, watercolor paper, brushes, paints and a container to hold it all! Play Dough found its way into my purchases too.

Plus I found a cute little fluffy tutu and some ballet/gym slippers for her to play in when she dances to her ballerina music. What a little imaginative/creative dear she is.

As I write this . . . I am excited for her to be with me HERE today . . . we have a play, painting day planned together . . . I am sure we will have time for a pretend coffee, tea time as well . . . or we might go for ice cream . . . or stay in and bake cookies instead!

My son Scott has an April birthday too . . . saturday the fourteenth. We plan to drive his way for a pizza night plus a visit to see the grands new homes, IF the ice storm moves out of the way! No ice ride/drive for me!

I paraphrased a song Josh Groban sings, and created a framed piece for Scott’s office. I also tried making a card with water colors . . . of a waterskier. Scott and his wife Sue live on a lake. Boats, water skiing, snow skiing have been a joy for Scott for years. The grandkids have been at the lake with them until college, work and now they are creating their own familes, home purchases. Scott and Sue are experiencing a new phase of “empty nest.”

Oakland was HERE. . . what a GRAND day it was! The “foo foo” tutu skirt was a favorite, off came her leggins, on went the skirt. We painted, drew, painted some more. We played with Simon an old ventriloquist doll found at a garage sale, years ago. I need to “doctor him up” . . . the (big) kiddoes love playing with him. Hide and seek was fun . . . Snickers was a hit. Snickers lets Oakland carry her all over the house, up and down the steps! Making chocolate chip cookies with Oakland was my favorite . . . what fun it is to watch her try and learn. Love, LOVED this day!

Seems like yesterday I was playing with my grandchildren . . . and now . . . what a blessing to have lived long enough to watch and play with great grand children . . .

Oakland at three years old above, playing “pretend birthday cake” last year.
It’s the little things that hold so much joy . . .

‘till next time . . .
love

Lynne - what a terrific post! I was mesmerized from start to finish. I think Oakland might have inherited your painting skills, and I am jealous. Play Dough! I can smell it even as I write this ... many joyful hours spent creating with our kids! Hide and seek. Chocolate chip cookies - see, it just never ends! And by the way, that second to last shot is precious with a capital P!

All to kindle and stoke the fire of her creative little soul... in the tenderest most nurturing way. I simply love it. Your Scott and my Zack come close to sharing birthdays. Zack's is the 16th. And, oh, my goodness! I love the gifts you made for Scott. The framed words touched my heart. What a cutie Oakland is. I have had enough stay not to days for a while, but I do get a lot done when I am home. Two at home days a week is about perfect.
