Made my day . . .

BINGO
Saw a FB post on Frank Lloyd Wright Home influence in Mason City, Hampton, Iowa this morning
(and now I can’t find the post) BUT . . .
it brought back memories of my young marriage with my late husband, Gary K. Gordon.

We managed an apartment complex, owned by one of Gary’s professors, from 1961-1966
and I just now, after looking for years for pictures of the complex,
plus driving around Milwaukee years back, trying to locate this complex,
I FOUND INFO on Wikimedia.
Our son Scott Gordon was born while we lived here.
WOW . . . gives me goose bumps to have found this info . . .
(no doubt, more stories will follow)

The third unit, top floor, is where we lived.
Each very large unit was a 2 BR, plus Kitchen, LR, DR, bathroom, storage unit.
Coal heat, tending to the furnaces was a full time job.
I took the bus out in front of the apartment to my teaching job in West Allis, WI, each morning, evening.
We managed the units plus paid $15 a month to live here.

Internet info -
“The American System-Built Homes, Burnham Street District, Milwaukee. NRHP,
designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Taken on April 24, 2009.
The picture shows three of the four model F duplexes, with the model B1 bungalow
(on the far right) undergoing renovation, and covered by plastic.
Attribute to Kevin S. Hansen.”

thank you for visiting
‘til next time,
love

When bits and pieces of our distant past float to the surface in our present, it is almost an out of body experience. I experience some of that when I drove past a house I lived in as a child. I also Google Video Mapped my grand parents home in Staten Island. The house is still standing - but appears so much smaller than I remember it.

Amazing feeling isn' it? I have been looking for my grandmother's house for years. We have no photos of it, so it was impossible to describe the house to my kids. But I found it recently, too...a real estate listing and I gave them "the tour"!! SO happy you were able to find it!!

Good morning, Lynne! I too like Frank Lloyd Wright homes. There is one near here that was moved from a small lake to private property. The owners have kept its charm and it is lovely in the new setting.
Enjoy your day, Lynne. I hope we can get together soon. Hugs to you!

Frank Lloyd Wright homes were really remarkable and rather diverse. We have a couple in Lansing. I love that the memories came through as well!

What a great memory, Lynne. I wonder if you knew at the time how even more famous Frank Lloyd Wright would become. His popularity certainly hasn't faded. Hugs, Nncy
