Roomies . . .

college roomies
the six of us met each other in college in 1957
Janette, Theresa, Lynne, Elaine, Judy, Lorena

we lived in Brigham Hall dorm in our first year of college

later, some of us moved to a house
which was known as the
Feather House
so we became the
Feather House Girls

some of us met our future spouses
one of us already had met hers
we studied and played together
experienced a bit of mischief together too
we have laughed and cried
wished, hoped, dreamed together

we used to get together each year
to catch up with our lives

we became
wives, mothers, teachers, grannies
and some of us great grannies

(these pictures were taken at Theresa's home in the nineties)

***
we graduated from the
University of Wisconsin at Platteville
one of several state schools in Wisconsin

***
I am proud to be a graduate of UWP
my entire family graduated from there
mom, dad, brother

***

I am in the mood for a reunion catch up
let's choose a place and make it happen

Celebrating "77 on the 7th" . . .

It has been a week of celebrating . . .

Mister Irish Garden House treated me to
hear and see Celtic Women this past Sunday
with dinner after at PF Chang's.

The little gal on the left, with the fiddle, is a dynamo.
Flitting around the stage and fiddling at the same time.
Delightful . . .
Amazing Grace with the bagpipes
Inspirational . . .

My friend Jackie treated me to a pedicure.
What a great thing to do with a friend.

I wish we had taken birthday pictures there.
Since we forget to take pictures of our pedicure
I am including this one of us from a few years ago.

Last year we started a tradition.
I had never tasted tequila so Jackie took me
out "to a biker bar" for my first shot of tequila.
She is "crazy fun" like that and gets me "out of my box"

For this years birthday outing, I purchased a bottle of tequila,
brought along some pretty little glasses from home,
and we shared some tequila for our pedicure.
We relaxed, giggled, enjoyed!
I think the salon gals had fun with us and thought we were a hoot!

We have had wonderful girlfriend times together through the years.

(Talk about a "hoot" . . . Jackie has me watching
Grace and Frankie . . . it is so much fun!)

On the actual birthday of June 7th,
it was the pedicure in the afternoon and then dinner with my family at night.

"77 on the 7th" was a Very Happy Day, here I am with my family,
"Mister Irish Garden House, hubs, Mister Kennedy, Jack" next to me,
DIL Sue, son Scott, daughter Suzie holding Elijah,
grandson Cody and Elise, Elijah's dad and mom.
granddaughter Amanda.

Getting everyone together is getting to be more and more of a challenge.
And then remembering to take pictures . . .whew!
Next time hopefully Suzie's family can be with us too!

Elijah was happy and contented

I liked catching a picture of my son and daughter next to one another.

Amanda is enjoying being a first time auntie!

Not my photo but I thought you might enjoy
seeing this growing fast four month old adorable.
Elijah and his mom were off to his first visit to the zoo.

I found this lovely little planter at my door on my birthday.
It is looking wonderful on the porch with this

Thank you to my family,
Jackie, Donna, Chuck, Libby, Bettie
for making this such a wonderful day!

Girls Gotta Have Fun . . .

I am warning you, this week I will be posting pictures
(lots of pictures) of my birthday week.

Happy Birthday cards, phone calls, Facebook, family, pedicure,
lunches, dinners, friends visits and blogger friends wishes too!

I couldn't have felt any more special
.
It was wonderful.
Thank you,
Thank You,
THANK YOU

Great fun it has been celebrating my
"77th on the 7th"
~
Our Summer PEDS Gathering
was celebrated the day after my birthday.
I worked with these gals in pediatrics when I worked at the hospital.
We get together twice a year.

We chose to "eat out" for dinner and then we came back to my home for dessert.
Since two of us were celebrating June birthdays
and dessert was at my house I had a cake made for us.
And what a cake it turned out to be . . . so pretty, loved the flowers!

We celebrated with visits, giggles and Dollar Store gifts . . .
I found those hats for one dollar each . . .
We had so much fun with them!

Our winter party is at one of our houses and we each bring a few appetizers
and the host person treats with a new recipe or soup/salad.

We range in age from 60 to almost 92.

One of our group died two years ago.
Thus . . . the empty chair at the table

In My Garden . . .

right there, near that stake
recently shared
"Jacks!"
and one day next spring they will be pop up
Jack-in-the-Pulpits

and when I see them popping up
I will remember who shared them with me
Wisconsin Beth

and right there are
my momma's iris
split  shared  moved  planted
again and again and again

they were from a farm in Iowa
and were given to my mom

replanted at my mom's home in
Hampton, Iowa
and first given to me by my mom in
1969

since then
"miss momma iris"
has bloomed in
Baraboo, Wisconsin
Montague, Michigan
Spring Lake, Michigan
Twin Lake, Michigan
Georgia and Arkansas
and back to
Hampton, Iowa

my friend Carol
who knew my mom
has "momma's iris"
blooming right now at her home in Hampton

"Momma Iris"
has been blooming in
many, many other gardens of friends
and very soon "slips" will be dug up once again
and sent to
 Beth in Wisconsin
Joan in Virginia
and Penny in Illinois
-
plant sharing is one of our oldest arts
many gardens have had their "beginnings"
from the sharing of slips and perennials
from a friends garden

what a wonderful thing it is to
look out the window
stroll through the yard and gardens
and see a plant budding, growing, thriving
and remember the friend who shared it

White Bleeding Heart
shared from my dear, dear friend
"Miss Barbie"
Beautiful each year, this year especially so!

Love Greetings . . .

Postcard collecting has been a hobby of mine for quite a few years.
I stopped at a local antique store the other day
and browsed through a few valentines
and valentine postcards too.

You know the saying,
"things aren't like they used to be!"
Well that is how I felt . . .
oh the antique thingy is the same
postcards too
but the mystique and joy
I once found in it all
wasn't there.

I think that sometimes happens,
when I am looking and searching for things,
they don't seem to show up,
but when "I least expect"
wow, what wonderful surprises.

The check out man said,
"oh, you are a postcard collector?"
And I replied,
"not really a COLLECTOR, just collect!"
And he went on to inquire why I liked postcards . . .
and I went on to tell him what I liked about them.

I look for dates that connect me to family and friends.
I look for state names, post mark dates.
I look for the  sayings, quotes, words, design.
Most of my postcards are cards from the very early 1900's.
I have more Santa cards than I can count.
My favorites  . . . I often give away . . .
It makes me happy to see others enjoy what I have enjoyed.

The cards above were my favorite's from my recent, "look and see."
The card "To My Sweetheart"
said . . . in beautiful old handwritten script,
"From Henry"

The " To My Valentine" card in light blue
had a long message about
"feeling cranky".
(The card was so sweet and delicate, the message, not so much.)

The 1910 was the year my mother was born
and on the back it said . . . Mother.

I really liked the little girl and the two boys and the quip,
"I like them both, what shall I do"

and the
You're a Honey of a Bunny
let's just say
that is what I think about each of you
a bunch of
Honey Bunny's
~
"This brings,
though far apart:
All cordial wishes
from my Heart."
