Happy Mother's Day . . .

Years ago I created photo collages of family pictures in very large frames.
The collection of these photos holds many a story of my/our family.

A few days ago I used my iPad to take some pictures of the collage photos.
There I am, holding one of my grandchildren, I think it is Tyler.
My mom is to my right and also in the photo below,
with my granddaughter Amanda, daughter in law, Sue.
My mother's hand/fingers at the bottom.

These photos were taken during the final years of my moms life.
She died March 9, 1996.
Look up between my mother and me and you'll see my dad, holding me.
I love that picture.

A mixture of pictures.
My dads college graduation picture in the middle
and my moms picture from her teaching days right up above.

My dads picture is there with the Green Bay packer helmet
and you'll find pictures of my daughter Susie
and my son Scott here and there.

My mom, brother and me, Christmas time in the late eighties.

Up at the top there is a picture of me, with my grandmother Brewer,
my moms mother better known as "Kitty" for Kathryn
and she is holding our first born Scott.
My late husband Gary is sitting next to my grandmother.

I love my stories . . . my grandmother was a feisty sort,
born in Cambourne England, teeny tiny under five feet, fireball.
She visited us often when we lived in Milwaukee.

She introduced me to swaddling . . . not the purchased version we see today,
she would take a blanket and wrap it around Scott so comfy and tight
he would snuggle right up without a peep and take a long nap.

I digress . . . she was a good lady, loved and cherished.

My mom in the middle, holding Cody, her first great grandchild.

Above my mom, my brother Terry and me . . .
My parents had a dear friend who was a photographer.
Many trips were made from Lone Rock to Dodgeville, Wisconsin for pictures.

My mother would roll up my straight hair on socks
so I would have some curls for my pics.

One more fuzzy picture of mom and Cody.

A family mixture  . . .
Susie at three or four, me in a hat, seventies I think
Pictures of Gary, my mom and dad, Scott in there too.

My mom and me at Scott and Sue's wedding.
I think my mom looks so pretty  . . .

My dad is above the pic of my mom.
He died way too young, at sixty eight.
Sad years, my dad's death in '77, Gary's moms death in '78
and then Gary's very sudden death in 1980.

One of my favorite pictures of my mom.

Mom and dad on the left, high school years if I remember correctly.

I like that picture of me with my uncle in uniform too.

Thank you for staying with me through this pictorial family history post.
I think my melancholy of late took me to do this.
I miss my family of long ago.
My wonderful, beautiful mother
filled with art, etiquette, patience, respect, love, grace.

A bit of Mother's Day information from the web.

Mother's Day is a holiday honoring motherhood
that is observed in different forms throughout the world.
The American incarnation of Mother's Day was created by Anna Jarvis in 1908
and became an official holiday in 1914.
Jarvis would later denounce the holidays commercialization
and spent the latter part of her life trying to remove it from the calendar.

Dates and celebrations vary but
Mother's Day commonly falls on the second Sunday in May

Roots of Mothers Day history go back to the United Kingdom
where a "mothering Sunday" was celebrated
much before it saw the light of day of celebration in the United States

Mother's Day is celebrated on different days in 46 differenct countries.

Celebrations of mothers can be dated back to the
Greeks and Romans who held fesitvals in honor
of the mother goddess Rhea and Cybele.

More phone calls are made on Mother's Day than any other day of the year

Love Greetings . . .

Postcard collecting has been a hobby of mine for quite a few years.
I stopped at a local antique store the other day
and browsed through a few valentines
and valentine postcards too.

You know the saying,
"things aren't like they used to be!"
Well that is how I felt . . .
oh the antique thingy is the same
postcards too
but the mystique and joy
I once found in it all
wasn't there.

I think that sometimes happens,
when I am looking and searching for things,
they don't seem to show up,
but when "I least expect"
wow, what wonderful surprises.

The check out man said,
"oh, you are a postcard collector?"
And I replied,
"not really a COLLECTOR, just collect!"
And he went on to inquire why I liked postcards . . .
and I went on to tell him what I liked about them.

I look for dates that connect me to family and friends.
I look for state names, post mark dates.
I look for the  sayings, quotes, words, design.
Most of my postcards are cards from the very early 1900's.
I have more Santa cards than I can count.
My favorites  . . . I often give away . . .
It makes me happy to see others enjoy what I have enjoyed.

The cards above were my favorite's from my recent, "look and see."
The card "To My Sweetheart"
said . . . in beautiful old handwritten script,
"From Henry"

The " To My Valentine" card in light blue
had a long message about
"feeling cranky".
(The card was so sweet and delicate, the message, not so much.)

The 1910 was the year my mother was born
and on the back it said . . . Mother.

I really liked the little girl and the two boys and the quip,
"I like them both, what shall I do"

and the
You're a Honey of a Bunny
let's just say
that is what I think about each of you
a bunch of

"This brings,
though far apart:
All cordial wishes
from my Heart."

Grocery Shopping . .

grocery shopping, or off to the mall,
looking for Easter eggs, going for a walk
who knows what this
Little Miss Adorable
might have in her mind.

my daughter and son in law have a few acres of land near their home
and while my daughter Suzie, Oakland's granny, was raking leaves the other day
Oakland dragged this old purse and basket out of the garage and
took off down the driveway

amazing at eighteen months of age
she already is creative and enjoys her imaginary play

what a joy she is
may she enjoy all the best of life and living

on the main floor below

our ministers married us

many smiles, much joy

blessed, signed, sealed
~
after our wedding
we enjoyed a reception
with our friends and family
in the same venue

our honeymoon was at a beautiful log cabin
in the north

My daughter asked me the other day,
how and why I/we chose an October day to be married.
I hadn't thought about it for a long time,
but October being one of my favorite times of the year
and  being that something tragic happened in that month
I told her I was ready for something sweet!
Thus the eighteenth was chosen.

Thirty Five Years . . .

October 14, 1980

The day was like most October days . . .
warm fall like breeze
leaves falling fast and furious
a hint of cooler weather approaching
thoughts of football, pumpkins, October fest, Halloween . . .

It was a Tuesday . . .
My teens, 13 and 16 were busy with school homework.
I had laundry, dishes from dinner, end of day tiding up things to do.
Ginger was resting by the doorway, her master,
dad, husband, Gary was out with the guys
for a run/exercise night . . .

A face in the window
friends, Dave and Lynn . . .
I felt suddenly chilled, frightened
"Something has happened, we have to hurry . . . It is Gary . . ."

Warm breezes had changed to rain . . .
we hurried for the car
Suzie in her PJ's, clothes on top of them
Scott, Suzie, the three of us in the back seat
confused, startled, stunned, frightened . . .

Hospital Emergency
waiting
frozen
shocked

Doctor holding my hands
"There wasn't anything we could do
I am so sorry, he is gone . . ."

I can't believe this
I can't believe this
I still can't believe this
~
how could it be
he was only forty one
not sick
how could it be

Life changed in an instant.
The reality and shock is never forgotten.
We remember today
Gary
dad
husband
We cherish the life we had together.

as a family we
skied, boated, camped
family pets many
a couple of our pets were
our Irish Setter
and a non friendly cat that only liked Suzie.

we lived in
Milwaukee, West Allis, Baraboo, Montague

there were
many trips out west to ski
with the Mulock family
skiing Indianhead and Powderhorn
boating, sailing, fishing, camping
on the Wisconsin River, the Mississippi
White Lake, Lake Michigan
and Hill Lake in Minnesota

our beautiful restored Baraboo home
all the work Gary did
refinishing, painting, repairing
Scott helping him

our move to
Montague Michigan
new home
new wonderful friends

a very good life indeed
blessings many
~
I found grief the most solitary experience ever
non of us grieve the same
there is no right or wrong
I felt like I was riding a roller coaster with my feelings
grief never ends . . . it changes
talking, writing, crying, walking,
remembering, laughing
praying,
friends, family
help sometimes
and sometimes nothing helps

his name was Gary, I like hearing his name

not much anyone else can do
to ease someone else's grief pain
yet . . . listen and be there
~
Even after thirty five years
it is like it happened yesterday.

Life is fragile, it can change in a flash
please be kind to one another
Love,
Lynne

Great Granddaughter Joy . . .

I hadn't seen Oakland since her birthday in April.
We caught up today at her granny's, my daughters.
Shy at first, but not for long.
We had great fun reading books
and playing leg bouncy.
My daughter snapped some pictures.
You can see Oakland's daddy,
my grandson Tyler, in the first picture.

I loved her giggles,
I wish you could have heard her.

This is a bunch of photo load,
I couldn't resist
I hope you enjoy
~
I love music of all kinds,
but there's no greater music than
the sound of my
grandchildren laughing;
my kids, too.
